God’s idea was always Relationship.

It was never God’s plan for us to exist alone and no human can exist alone. This is the reason why He created Eve. Yes, marriage was part of it. But, even a marriage is simply a Relationship. Jesus also, had His disciples around Him.

I state this first, because we need one another. Hence, it is never out of sight when you uncover how to Enhearten Yourself. The Word Enhearten came to me as I was searching the Heart of God in one of my most difficult seasons in life. Enhearten simply means:

to give or restore strength and courage to someone.

The phrase Enhearten Yourself is not in the dictionary or thesaurus. Its use is actually discouraged. However, there is no better word and phrase which God could have given me than this one. I have learned in extremely difficult circumstances; to restore strength and courage to myself – through my personal relationship with my Lord, Jesus Christ.  I would like to use this platform to share with you some tools which you might be able to use in your own life to restore yourself.

From the life of King David, I learned that there are seasons in life when you have to encourage yourself (see 1 Samuel 30:6). This is a season when things are so terrible that despite having a strong support system, things still fall apart. The reason is that something is wrong on the inside, and no matter how much love and support is on the outside – things still just isn’t right. This is where I found myself for almost a full year. I finally came to a point where I had to accept that help isn’t coming. And I am in no way minimizing the support and care of all the people in my life, because I do have a very strong support system. I just realized that even they can’t help me on the inside and despite all their help, I still felt helpless, depressed and suicidal. Driving from work one day, God spoke to me and said:

“My Spirit is In You.”

In that moment I got a revelation that all power/authority is in me and that I can stir it up. My Help is inside of me, because My Helper is inside of Me. My Comforter, Counsellor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby, Teacher, Truth of God and Fullness & Life of God is within me. Therefore, I can Enhearten Myself. The Holy Spirit is God’s Greatest Gift unto me. He is the one who makes Jesus real to us. And He indwells the ones who are born-again i.e. have accepted Jesus Christ is Lord and Saviour.

From above, you can get a sense that I believe the Word of God. God’s Word is the final authority in my life. I’m stating this for a reason. I believe we should have a reference point of Truth. Without this reference point, life will be a constant drifting between opinions and it is frustrating – I’ve been there. I have lived long enough to know without a doubt that The Word of God is True. I am a human being. And I am not perfect. Hence, honestly, there are certain scriptures that simply just work on my nerves :-). I wish they were not written in the Holy Scriptures. I wish it was just someone’s opinion which I can reject, disregard and never think about again. But, it is God’s Word. To make matters worse, the bible is often referred to as God’s Love letter to us. And I’m like really?! How can this be love when it is filled with restrictions, rules and regulations of what I cannot do; especially when I have desires which should and must be fulfilled? Surely, God does not understand my needs; because if He did – why all the conditions and difficult Words?

Therefore, I understand when people tell me they do not want to accept Jesus Christ. For a very long time, due to the questions above and many more in my heart (even still today after being born-again for more than 11 years), I get it. I ran away from Him. I certainly did not have in Mind to be a Jesus follower or Jesus Freak (as some would say).  However, in spite of all the above reasons, questions and so forth, I have learned that He is All Wise and that He really does love me. I believe this so much today that my main message in life is – God loves you. God is amazing. He changed my heart and He is still changing my heart. However long I live, My Heavenly Abba Father will keep drawing me closer to His Heart, His Ways and His Thoughts. I love Him.

How did this change occur? I would like to encourage you to please read my testimony, on my testimony page. In short, He humbled me. He displayed His own greatness and my own smallness to me. And when I became a father myself, I really began to understand His Heart. What I once thought was hatred from Him (those scriptures I want to disappear) I came to realize that it truly is His Love. A Good parent will not always say “yes”. A Good parent will always act in the best interest of the child, even when the child throws a tantrum and cannot comprehend or understand why you as a parent would act this way or say “no”. If you are a parent, I salute you. God Himself knows that it is not easy to raise a child, but He who is Holy chose and still chooses to raise naturally unholy fleshly beings – us i.e. you and me. And He is patient enough to guide us from Flesh to Spirit – day after day. He avails Himself to me daily and when I draw near to Him, He draws near to me – just like He says He would, in His Word. Some days I am a mess and I am stubborn. These days, I do not necessarily behave like a “Christian”. I also sin and I miss the mark. I’m a work in progress and not perfect yet, but my goal is to live pleasing to Him and Honour Him above all else. Hence, I have come to appreciate the real value of honesty, humility and repentance. I’ve become a much better person. But, I cannot emphasize enough that it took time and it still is taking time. Today, I do not stay long in my sin or my occasional state of rebellion due to hurt, angry or disappointed emotions. I learn, turn, repent and do better through leaning on the Holy Spirit and asking Him to strengthen me and make me better. I have learned that His Grace is absolutely sufficient.
